What is an EdCamp?

EdCamps are a relatively new movement in education.  They started out in the USA, with EdCamp Philly.  In April of 2011 the first Canadian EdCamp was held; EdCamp Vancouver.

From the EdCamp Vancouver Website:
We have a vision for what professional development can look like. This vision is driven by a movement which started in the United States and could transform professional development for teachers.
We would like to take the best part of conferences, which in our opinion are the conversations between the attendees, and turn these into the focus of the conference. We will still have presentations but the process for setting up who presents will be more democratic and the presentations will be more interactive than a typical conference. We would like everyone to be expected to share what they know. We would like to run a conference for everyone interested in education.
Back in November, EdCamp Okanagan took place in Kelowna.  Below are reflections from participants.
